Preliminary IM – Neurology (NRMP # 1677140P1)
Seven positions in the 14-position Preliminary Internal Medicine program have been reserved for applicants who match in the Brown Neurology program. This capacity allows all members of the entering Neurology class to spend their Preliminary IM year at Brown. Most years, the entire Neurology class takes advantage of this guarantee, enabling them to enter Neurology residency already familiar with the institution and the Department of Medicine. In addition, Preliminary-Neurology interns meet with Neurology faculty during their first year and get to know their future colleagues. Finally, Preliminary IM Interns spend a month on the Neurology rotation along with their Categorical IM peers, thus reinforcing their knowledge and skills in the discipline which they will be entering and familiarizing themselves with the clinical operations of the Neurology Department.
Applicants who wish to be considered for the Preliminary-Neurology Internal Medicine program must apply specifically to the Preliminary IM – Neurology (NRMP # 1677140P1) and list this program on their supplementary NRMP rank list in association with the Brown Neurology Residency. For applicants who wish to be considered for the general Preliminary IM Program (NRMP # 1677140P0) as well, for use in their supplementary NRMP rank list in association with other Neurology programs, you will need to formally designate an application to this program as well.
Applicants to the Brown Neurology Residency Program are accommodated during interview season with a single virtual interview day for both Neurology and Internal Medicine. Invited applicants, during their Neurology Interview Day, will be provided with an informational session by Neurology faculty. This session, along with their Neurology interviews, will satisfy the interview requirements for Internal Medicine without the need for a separate interview day in the Department of Medicine. Applicants should alert the Neurology administrative staff if they wish to take advantage of this process. Applicants wishing to be considered for this consideration must submit their application to the General Preliminary IM Program (NRMP # 1677140P0) as well as the Preliminary IM – Neurology (NRMP # 1677140P1).
