“Every day, our hospitals treat patients suffering from the health effects of smoking. In January 2012, Lifespan Hospitals implemented a hiring policy and practice that prohibits hiring anyone who uses tobacco products. It is also hospital policy to require all new employees, including House Officers, to undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screening. The Hospital will make a determination of whether the information revealed by any required drug screening test renders the House Officer ineligible for acceptance into the training program.”
